Students have arrived in Beijing - Monday 11 July 2016
We have all arrived in Beijing safe and sound.
Everyone is very tired but excited and looking forward to getting to our hotel.
Although the flights were long they both went very quickly with lots to see,
especially in Dubai airport.
It's half past five here and we are just on the coach travelling from Beijing airport to the Rainbow Hotel. We expect it to take about an hour but it's peak time and we've just been informed there are six million cars in Beijing so we could be waiting a little longer for our dinner.
We are off to the forbidden city and Beijing Zoo tomorrow where we shall hopefully pick up our mascot and see the pandas (something we've all been looking forward to).
1 hour later...
We arrived at our hotel and had a lovely meal (a mixture of Chinese and Western dishes). Our guides promised us a much more authentic Chinese meal tomorrow which we are all excited but a little apprehensive about.
We then had a lot of fun figuring out our hotels fabulous lift system. After Alex and Jack stepped off on the wrong floor (5), we then realised that our fobs would only take us to floors 1, 2, 3 and 9 (where our rooms are) so they were temporarily stuck. We then spent a very entertaining 15 minutes trying to get to floor 5 to retrieve Alex and Jack. This included a visit to reception to find out the hotel has no stairs (apart from the emergency exits) and some confusion as to why some of our students had a room on floor 5. Eventually a member of staff realised why they were on floor 5 and fob in hand off we went to collect them. Needless to say this was the highlight of the day for the girls, not so much for poor Alex and Jack. It did however wake them all up and sent them all off to their rooms with great big grins on their faces.
The hotel rooms are huge and the students have a big spacious bed each and a couch overlooking a view of Beijing through their floor to ceiling windows.
We are having one final meeting to discuss plans for tomorrow and then we're all off for some much needed sleep so we are ready for our next adventure.

ReplyDeleteIt could only be my son to step out of a lift on the wrong floor and get stuck! But glad their all having fun, they look happy in the photo.
