Day 4 (14 July 2016)

Today's the day! After a few changes to the itinerary, today's the day we finally get to go and see the pandas.

We got up and went for breakfast earlier than planned and then we arrived at the meeting point early (we were all really excited). It took us about an hour to get to the the zoo and we waited outside while our guide Kevin sorted our tickets out. We took lots of group photos outside with our banner. This is always funny because we get lots of Chinese people stopping to watch and asking to take photos with us and our banner.

First stop, the pandas ... They were all so fluffy and chubby and cute. They were either eating bamboo (they couldn't get the leaves in fast enough) or they were asleep - sprawled out with their legs resting in the air or star-fished on their bellies like a human. We all returned to the shop at the end to buy panda teddies (apart from Dannielle who got her tiger).
We wondered around after seeing lots of animals we haven't seen before. The zoo was so big though we just couldn't get round it all.
We did see a Fennec fox though which Mrs Hudson was very excited about and we all remembered from science. We saw wolves, tigers, a very strange looking bird and we even saw a bear, it looked just like Baloo from the new jungle book.
After the  zoo we went to a restaurant for another Chinese banquet. We're all getting very good at using our chopsticks now. Me and Alex B tried some green tea which we found very strange because all the leaves were floating on top.

After lunch we got back on the coach and went to the Summer Palace. This is a huge place with a lake and lots of beautiful buildings. It was built by the emperor for his mother and he shaped her palace like a turtle as this means long life in China.
We found it strange walking around the Summer Palace as it was full of Chinese tourists and they all wanted to take photos of us and they stared at us a lot. Some of them even had their hands over their mouth in shock when they saw us all.

We went on a boat over the lake to visit other buildings and the bridge. All the normal seats were taken when we got on the boat so me, Alex N, Alex DLB, Rosie and Mrs Hudson sat in special seats at the front. We got sprayed on the way there but they were great seats.
We then walked back around the lake, taking lots of photos on the bridge and at a Chinese door. There were lots of fishes which we watched and Alex B named a big one 'Jerry' which we watched bumping all the other smaller fishes out of the way.

After this we got back on the coach and went to another restaurant for dinner (another Chinese banquet!). This restaurant was really posh and the chef came out to carve the duck which we had with pancakes. We also got some wifi here so we could text home.

We had to come back to the hotel and pack our bags as we are off to Harbin tomorrow evening. We still have a full day of tours tomorrow though to look forward to.
