Day 13- 23 (July 2016)

Today we had our last mandarin lesson of the trip, in which, we reviewed our knowledge of the mandarin that we've learnt so far. We also went through a practice paper for the YCT exam we are taking tomorrow. This was followed by lunch which was similar to every day in the canteen.

Lunch was followed by a trip to the Confucius temple, Confucius was an eastern philosopher who believed education should be a right for every one, regardless of your background or how rich or poor you are. He would teach anyone who listened to his teachings. There were a great many exhibitions and traditional buildings located at this site. We had a good look round and took lots of pictures. We also saw traditional clothes made of fish skin (yuck) and fur.
After this we travelled to a Buddhist temple where Buddhist monks worked the ground and planted many exotic and amazing fruits and vegetables. The area was amazing and the various paths were surrounded by nature. We were surprised by how beautiful and brightly coloured the buildings , temple and grounds were. It was really peaceful here. We also heard the bells and saw the monks been called to pray. There were lots of small rooms with gold statues in and the monks were worshipping inside. We had to be careful not to stand on the step of each building as this is believed to be the threshold that the gods stand on.  Opposite the temple were many shops which sold miniature Buddhas and statues of warriors. There were thousands of Buddhist beaded bracelets and necklaces and we all spent our last bit of money here. Alex B even got a green jade dragon. There were many beggars outside the temple which was a surprise as we haven't really seen many around China but they didn't hassle any of the students.

After the temple visits we went for dinner at a famous dumpling restaurant, the food here was absolutely amazing, piping hot and fresh ingredients used in every dish. Plus the dishes just kept coming and coming, we really couldn't eat it all. We were taken straight to a VIP room where we all sat together and ate the amazing food.
Once we returned to the university campus we all took part in a paper cutting class where we made a really cool shape and also a butterfly during the lecture.
After this we were all soooo tired and it was really late but we were pleased to hear that we have a little bit of a lie in tomorrow as our test doesn't start till 9.
We are gutted this is our last proper day of visits in China... we would love to stay!
However we've missed everyone and we are all looking forward to lots of different things when we get home.
Alex DLB is looking forward to chilli tacos, Dannielle is looking forward to a cup of tea and some kinder chocolate, Rosie is really looking forward to some Doritos, Alex B is still looking forward to chicken kievs, Jack is still looking forward to dominoes, Roxana is looking forward to her mums pancakes and Mrs Hudson can't wait for a croissant and a cappuccino from Costa.
Good night UK - see you soon!
